Awards $5,000 to Putnam Police Department

July 3, 2006: The Putnam Savings Foundation recently awarded a $5,000 grant to the Putnam Police Department for the purchase of Taser guns for the officers. The contribution will enable the Police Department to buy an adequate number of Taser guns to equip a full shift of officers, as well as related training equipment. Taser guns give police another option in apprehending a suspect, offering the ability to deliver non-deadly force from a safe distance.

"We are proud to be able to support our local police department," said Thomas Borner, Chairman and CEO of Putnam Savings Bank. "With town budgets trimmed to bare bones, we feel we have a responsibility to our community to help provide the additional funds that give our police officers the tools they need to help keep the residents of Putnam safe."
