September 27, 2006: With help from a $25,000 contribution from The Putnam Savings Foundation, land donated by Danielson resident Mitchell Phaiah, and a big dose of volunteerism, one deserving family will soon move into a brand new Habitat for Humanity home in Danielson, CT.
The Northeastern Connecticut Chapter of Habitat for Humanity (HFH), in partnership with Putnam Savings Bank (PSB), is hard at work building a one-family home on Commerce Avenue in Danielson. Construction is anticipated to be completed in early 2007.
Over twenty Putnam Savings Bank employees worked side by side the dedicated Habitat for Humanity construction team during a recent workday at the Danielson site. PSB Senior Vice President Lynn Brodeur, who serves as the President of the Northeast Connecticut HFH Chapter commented that "our staff's involvement with our Danielson build has been beyond our expectations. We were surprised not only by the number of people who volunteered during our Habitat Work Day, but by how many of them continued their involvement with the Habitat project. Their dedication and interest have been terrific."
Chairman and CEO Thomas Borner and his wife Kathy have worked on several Habitat builds throughout the country and are committed HFH volunteers. "The partnership between Putnam Savings Bank and Habitat for Humanity is a natural," says Tom. "One of the primary functions of community banking is housing, and what better way to promote housing than to help those most in need. It's a great way to give something back and to promote the American dream."
Habitat for Humanity of Northeast CT has been an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity since 1995.Their mission is to draw families in need and communities together to build decent, affordable housing. Habitat is committed to the development and uplifting of families and communities, not only to the construction of houses. In their non-discriminatory selection process, all homeowners contribute "sweat equity" and work as partners with the affiliate and other volunteers to accomplish Habitat's mission, both locally and worldwide.
