Online Banking Privacy Policy

The Online Privacy Policy provides you with a summary of Putnam Bank’s privacy practices relating to what information we may collect from you online and when you visit our website.  This policy is effective as of March 2009 but may change from time to time.  Please review periodically for updates.  We respect your right to privacy and take every precaution to provide you with the same level of privacy within our virtual branch that you receive through more traditional bank delivery channels.

Cookie Notice
When you visit our website we may use “Cookies”, which are pieces of information stored directly on the computer you are using.  The cookies may be used to determine display information efficiently and to gather data about the usage of our website.  These cookies help us to collect information about the type of browser being used, time spent on our website, and pages visited.   We may use cookies for security purposes to allow for authentication of user access during an Online Banking session.  Any time a cookie is used during an Online Banking session, information is encrypted and used to support your Online Banking activity.  You may disable the use of cookies by changing the settings on your browser, but doing so may interfere with the functionality of your Online Banking service. 

Collection of Personally Identifiable Or Confidential Information
We may collect personally identifiable information from you when you visit our website.  This allows us to provide you with Online Banking services and to better respond to your needs.  Our online collection practices are as follows:

  • Online Loan Applications – Information that you provide to us through the online loan application.  For Example: Information about your assets and liabilities.
  • Online Banking Registration – Information needed to sign up for Online Banking.  For Example:Driver’s License, Social Security Number, and Date of Birth.
  • Transaction Information – Information about your online session and transactions.  ForExample: Account transfers and Bill Payment information. 
  • Secure Guest Book Communications – Information or e-mail submitted through the bank’s Online Secure Guest Book.  

WE NEVER STORE PERSONAL ONLINE INFORMATION UNLESS IT IS ENCRYPTED.

Online Loan and Banking Applications
Online Loan and Banking Applications are submitted through the bank’s secure administration site, which is encrypted.  Access to the systems and application information is limited to authorized employees who need the information in order to provide you with banking products or services.  

Our Secure Guest Book
Putnam Bank provides a “secure guestbook”, which allows you to communicate with us through the use of encrypted e-mail.   The e-mail is sent to the bank's secured administration site, which is monitored by our Technology Department.  The e-mails are immediately forward to authorized personnel so that your information or request may be answered in a timely manner.  Putnam Bank will never request confidential information through regular or non-encrypted e-mail. 

Disclosing Information under Certain Circumstances
We may disclosure certain nonpublic personal information about you when required or permitted by law.  An example of circumstances may include in connection or response to a subpoena or similar legal process, fraud prevention, or for investigation or recording of deeds in public records.  We may also need to disclosure your information to the companies that assist us in processing your requests for products and services.  These companies may include the bank’s core system processor, check processor or check ordering company, and consumer reporting agencies.  We do not disclose any nonpublic personal information about you to anyone, except as permitted by law. 

Browser Notice
Any information you submit on a 40 bit browser may be insecure and could be observed by a third party while in transit. If you are submitting passwords, credit card numbers, or other information that you would like to keep private, it would safer for you to cancel this submission.

We recommend that you contact the manufacturer of your browser to inquire about 128 bit encryption to help ensure that the transmission of information, by you to us, is reasonably secure. If you are unable to configure your browser with 128 bit encryption, you may mail information to us at P. O. Box 151, Putnam, CT 06260 or you may call us at 1-800-377-4424 to provide information to us by telephone.

Putnam Bank may provide links to other sites, such as credit bureaus or merchants.  The privacy and security of these sites is not controlled by the bank and Putnam Bank is not responsible if you choose to link to one of these websites.  You should carefully review the privacy and security policies for these other sites before providing any information.

Online Children Privacy Protection
It is the policy of Putnam Bank to comply with The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Putnam Bank does not knowingly market to or solicit information from children under 13.
