Consumer Privacy Notice

How We Protect Customer Information
Putnam Bank is dedicated to protecting customer information. We restrict access to nonpublic personal information about you to those employees who need to know that information to provide products or services to you and our employees are bound by a code of ethics that mandates confidential and secure treatment of customer information.  We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with federal standards to guard your nonpublic personal information.  If you decide to close your account(s) or become an inactive customer we will continue to adhere to the privacy policies and practices described in this notice.

Protecting Your Own Information
There are steps, as recommended by the Federal Trade Commission, that you can take to protect your personal information and guard against identity theft.  These steps include:

  • Never respond to unsolicited requests for your social security number or financial data.
  • Shred credit card and ATM receipts before throwing them away.
  • Shred any pre-approved credit offers you receive, but don't intend to use.
  • Check all credit card and bank statements for accuracy.
  • Avoid easy- to-figure out access and personal identification number (PIN) codes. Never reveal your PIN to anyone.
  • Store your card number and PIN separately and never write your PIN on your card.
  • Obtain a copy of your credit report yearly and check it for accuracy.
  • Use only secure Web sites when making online purchases. Secure pages begin with "https."

Putnam Bank WILL NOT call you or send an urgent or time-sensitive email to request that you provide or confirm sensitive information such as your account numbers or social security number.  Should you ever receive such a phone call or e-mail please call us at 1-800-377-4424 or email mis@putnambank.com to report the incident. 

Reduce Preapproved Credit Solicitations
The credit reporting industry provides consumers with a toll free number, which allows consumers to opt out of promotional mailing lists sold by credit bureaus.  This number is 1-888-567-8688 and is available 24 hours a day.

National Do Not Call Registry
You can register on-line for the national do-not-call registry by going to www.donotcall.gov. To register by telephone, consumers may call 1-888-382-1222: for TTY call 1-866-290-4236.  You must call from the phone number you wish to register. 

Identity Theft
We will assist you if you believe that you are a victim of identity theft.   If you come into any one of our branches and talk to a customer service representative they will provide you with a resource brochure and other helpful information.  You can report incidence of identity theft to the Federal Trade Commission by visiting www.ftc.gov.

Information We Collect 
We collect information about you, some of which may be considered nonpublic personal information, to help us better understand your banking needs and to service your accounts.  Some of this information may be nonpublic personal information and may be collected through the following sources: 

  • Information we receive from you on applications, signature cards or other forms, such as your name, address

     Social Security number, assets and income;

  • Information about your transactions with us and our affiliate or others, such as your account balance, payment

     history;

  • Information we receive from a consumer reporting agency, such as your creditworthiness and credit history.

You may sometimes provide medical insurance information as part of an application for insurance.  We do not share medical information with third parties except those who require access to this information to process your insurance application and to the extent permitted by law.   

As required by the USA Patriot Act, we may also collect personal identification information such as your date of birth and drivers’ license information.  We may ask you to provide us with updated information to ensure that our records are accurate so that we can safeguard your account and personal information.  Please let us know if your information changes, such as your name and address.  We may ask you to provide your social security number in order to assist us in verifying your identity.   This helps us guard against identity theft.

Disclosing Information under Certain Circumstances
We may disclosure certain nonpublic personal information about you when required or permitted by law.  An example of circumstances may include in connection or response to a subpoena or similar legal process, fraud prevention or investigation or recording of deeds in public records.  We may also need to disclosure your information to the companies that assist us in processing your requests for products and services.  These companies may include the bank’s core system processor, check processor or check ordering company and consumer reporting agencies.  We do not disclose any nonpublic personal information about you to anyone, except as permitted by law. 

Sharing Information under Certain Circumstances
Currently we have a joint marketing agreement with FIA Card Services (Division of Bank of America/ Former MBNA), which is a third party servicing provider that assists us in providing you with credit card options.  In order for us to provide our deposit account holders with the FIA Card Services and so that a credit card offer can be sent to you we may share your name, address and date of birth* (*to ensure no solicitations to minors).  We will only share this information as permitted by law.   If you do not want us to send you credit card offers, as sponsored by us through FIA Card Services, you may request that your account profile be updated to reflect that you do not want the solicitation offer.  Please mail the request to Putnam Bank, Operations Department, P.O. Box 151. Putnam, CT 06260 and provide your name and deposit account number and indicate that you do not want credit card solicitations from Putnam Bank.  We do not share your information with other outside marketers. 

Corporate Family       Applicable to Consumer Mortgage and Loan Customers Only.
Our Privacy Policy applies to the Putnam Bank, PSB Holdings, Inc. and Putnam Bank (PB) Mortgage Servicing Company as a wholly owned subsidiary (Affiliate) of the PSB Holding Company.  Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, we are permitted by law to share with our affiliate information concerning a customer’s account history and experience with us.   The Putnam Bank Mortgage Servicing Company provides consumer loan services to Putnam Bank customers.  In order to provide you with loan services and products the bank may need to share information about you with PB Mortgage Servicing Company.  This information may include 1.) Information we obtain from your loan application, such as your income; 2.) Information we obtain from a consumer report, such as your credit score or credit history; 3.) Information we obtain regarding your employment history.  Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) we are required to provide consumer loan customers with an option to “opt out” of sharing “other information” with the Putnam Bank (PB) Mortgage Servicing Company.  PB Mortgage Servicing Company is staffed with Putnam Bank employees.  If you have a consumer loan and you prefer that we do not share “other information” with our affiliate, you may direct us not to share by either calling 1-800-377-4424 (you will be asked your name, loan number and social security number) or write us at Putnam Bank Mortgage Servicing Company – P.O. Box 151, Putnam, CT 06260.
