06/16/2020 - Centreville Bank Charitable Foundation Donates $157,300 to Eight Rhode Island and Connecticut Organizations

(West Warwick, RI, & Putnam, CT) June 16, 2020 – The Centreville Bank Charitable Foundation has awarded $157,300 in funding to three Rhode Island organizations and five Connecticut organizations, today announced Harold M. Horvat, bank President, CEO and Chairman. These grants are in addition to the Foundation's regular quarterly donation cycle.

Recipients include Thundermist Health Center, Woonsocket, RI, a Federally Qualified Community Health Center that provides medical, dental, behavioral health and other services to underserved populations in Woonsocket, West Warwick, and South County. The Centreville Bank Foundation has made a two-year pledge to Thundermist, which will be used for the relocation and expansion of its West Warwick dental office.

“We identified immediate needs for these organizations and are fortunate to be in a financial position to support them as they help the most vulnerable populations with everything from health and wellness, to food and other basic needs, to education and literacy," said Horvat. “This community support ties directly to the mission of the Centreville Bank Foundation, which now, through our merger with Putnam Bank, has been expanded to assist Eastern Connecticut as well."

In addition to Thundermist Health Center, RI organizations receiving grants are:

  • Tides Family Services
    Funds will be used for the Wellness Initiative which provides young people with education around nutrition and exercise.
  • Books are Wings
    Funds will be used to help create book bags for families to bring home and support summer reading. Each bag is filled with 2-3 books per grade level.

CT organizations receiving grants are:

  • Madonna Place
    Funds will be used for the Family Support Center Program, which
  • CT Radio Information System
    The grant will be used to help provide audio access in multiple languages to people who are blind, or print challenged.
  • City of Norwich Community Care
    Through this Connecticut Department of Health initiative, the grant will be used to help the homeless population with shelter and rapid rehousing.

05/27/2020 - Former Putnam Bank Officials Elected to Advisory Roles at Centreville Bank

Centreville Bank completed its acquisition of Putnam Bank on May 1

(West Warwick, RI) John Miller, former vice chair of the Putnam Bank board of directors, has been elected to the board of trustees at Centreville Bank, today announced Centreville's President, CEO and Chairman of the Board Harold M. Horvat.

Miller also was elected to Centreville's Corporators, as were former Putnam Bank leaders Thomas A. Borner, Esq., Robert J. Halloran, Jr., Richard A. Loomis, and Charles H. Puffer. Centreville's Corporators consists of businesspeople providing insights into the communities served by the bank.   

“We are fortunate to have the ongoing commitment of these individuals as the voices of Eastern Connecticut," said Horvat. “They were instrumental in the long-term success of Putnam Bank, and we'll be leaning on them for their insight and guidance as we write the next chapter of the bank's long history."  

Miller is the president and owner of the National Chromium Company, Inc., Putnam, CT, a metal finishing company that specializes in chromium and nickel coatings, servicing accounts across the United States. Prior to National Chromium, he worked as a management consultant for JPM Futuremanagement, and as director of human resources for Day Kimball Healthcare, both in Putnam. An adjunct instructor of business management at Quinebaug Valley Community College located in Danielson, Miller serves as president of the board of directors for Matulatis Nursing Home, Inc., in Putnam. In addition to his role as vice chair of Putnam Bank's board, he served as compensation committee chair. Miller earned an undergraduate degree and an MBA from Bryant University, Smithfield, RI.

Borner is the retired president and chief executive officer of Putnam Bank. He served as a director of the bank since 1987, and as chairman of the board of the bank from 1992 to 2012. In addition, Mr. Borner was interim chief executive officer of the bank from 1999 to 2000. Since October 2005, Mr. Borner has been Of Counsel to the law firm of Borner, Aleman and Davis, LLC in Putnam, Connecticut. He received BS and JD degrees from the University of Connecticut.

Halloran retired as a Putnam Bank director and as its executive vice president and chief financial officer. He joined Putnam Bank and its parent company, PB Bancorp, Inc., in 2004 and, until his appointment as bank president from 2006 to 2012, served as senior vice president and chief financial officer of Putnam Bank and President and Treasurer of the PB Bancorp. Halloran earned a BS degree from Clark University in Worcester, MA, and an MBA from Clark University Graduate School of Business.

Loomis is a retired board member of Putnam Bank and a partner with The Loomis Team, LLC, which is a partnership affiliated with RE/MAX Bell Park Realty that has concentrations in residential and commercial sales and leases. Loomis is also a controlling partner in TLC Group, LLC. TLC Group concentrates in real estate development and investment.

Puffer is retired chairman of the board of Putnam Bank and former owner of Leschke-Puffer Insurance Agency. He worked for and owned Leschke-Puffer, which is located in Putnam, for over 35 years until the company was sold in 2010. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Bradley University. Puffer has been an active member of the Putnam Rotary Club for over 33 years.

05/15/2020 - Centreville Bank Charitable Foundation Donates $45,000 to Nine Eastern CT Organizations Offering COVID-19 Relief

This brings total contributions to $70,000 in support of pandemic relief since March

(Putnam, CT) – The Centreville Bank Charitable Foundation has awarded $45,000 in emergency funding to nine Connecticut organizations, today announced Harold M. Horvat, bank President, CEO and Chairman. Centreville recently completed the acquisition of Putnam Bank, which operates as a division of Centreville.

“Now that our merger with Putnam Bank is complete, Centreville is proud to be part of the Eastern Connecticut community and we are committed to providing assistance where it is needed most," said Horvat.  “We realize that there continues to be an enormous amount of work to help the people and organizations of Eastern Connecticut that are being impacted financially by this pandemic. We hope that our ongoing support assists those who need it most."

Receiving grants are:

Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut (CFECT) $25,000;

The funds will support the Neighbors for Neighbors Fund, which was established in April to help area nonprofits that are working on the front lines of the COVID-19 battle to assist those who are most vulnerable including low-income individuals, residents without health insurance, individuals with disabilities, among others — to address immediate basic needs such as healthcare, food, shelter, childcare and other supports. Centreville previously donated $25,000 to this fund, bringing the total grant to $50,000 to date.

The following eight food pantries will receive a total of $20,000.

05/01/2020 - Centreville Bank Completes Acquisition of Putnam Bank

(West Warwick, RI and Putnam, CT) – Centreville Bank, a Rhode Island- chartered savings bank, announced today it has completed its cash acquisition of PB Bancorp, Inc. (NASDAQ Capital Market: PBBI) and its wholly owned subsidiary, Putnam Bank. The transaction is valued at $115.5 million. Centreville and PB Bancorp announced the transaction on October 22, 2019.

The acquisition is effective today, Friday, May 1, 2020, prior to the opening of business.

“We're thrilled that Putnam Bank will now be part of the Centreville Bank family," said Harold M. Horvat, President, CEO and Chairman, Centreville Bank. “Our due diligence over these past six months has validated what we first saw: that bringing these two similar institutions together aligns well strategically, operationally and culturally. And we truly believe that the biggest benefit will be realized by our new employees and customers in Eastern Connecticut."

Horvat said that Centreville Bank has sent information to all Putnam Bank Customers, which included answers to some of the frequent questions that have been asked since the acquisition was announced. There is no immediate change for Putnam Bank customers nor is any action required on their part. It is “business as usual" today, May 1, 2020. All current branches of Putnam Bank will remain open and will conduct business under the name “Putnam Bank, a Division of Centreville Bank."

The combined organization will have approximately $1.76 billion in assets and $1.37 billion in deposits.

“I want to take this opportunity to publicly thank outgoing Putnam Bank President and CEO Tom Borner for his leadership and vision during his tenure running this fine organization. He's built a solid bank that has a strong sense of community, and we intend to carry on that tradition," said Horvat.

Horvat also announced that former PB Bancorp director, John Miller, has been elected to the board of trustees of Centreville Bank.

Lee Poitras has been named Putnam Bank's Employee of the Year for 2019. Lee has been with the bank since August 1976, and is currently the Deposit Operations Manager. Lee volunteers for the NECT Cancer Fund Walk & Race, Northeast Opportunities for Wellness Road Race & Walk. She is also involved with the Bowdish Lake Association. In her free time she enjoys kayaking, paddle boarding and flower gardening. She especially enjoys traveling on vacation to tropical locations with her husband, Glenn. Their favorites being Hawaii and Key West.“To describe Lee as a long term staff member is an understatement. Lee is the most senior tenured member of our team. Barbara said, “I am surprised and honored to be chosen as the employee of the month. I am grateful to work with a great group of friends who have become family over the years." Barbara is a past committee member for both Day Kimball Heathcare's Walk & Race for NECT Cancer Fund and their D'Vine Wine Tasting events. She has participated in the Beat Breast Cancer 5K and the Northeast Opportunities for Wellness Road Race & Walk. She also spends time supporting the Brooklyn Elementary School along with their PTO, and the Brooklyn Recreation Department. Barbara enjoys spending time with Samantha, Stephen, Nova, and Sidney. Nancy Kurek was named Putnam Bank's Employee of the Month for October 2019. Nancy has been with the bank since June 2005, and currently serves as Floating CSR Supervisor. Nancy said, “I'm very surprised and honored to be chosen for this recognition. Thank you! It's great when an employer recognizes and appreciates the contributions of their staff. Putnam Bank also does a great job encouraging and supporting their employees to give back to the communities where we live and work." Nancy has participated in many community events during her time with the bank including American Cancer Society Relay for Life, Habitat for Humanity Build Days, Norwich Rock the Docks, Griswold Snowflake Festival and Spooktopia! Trunk or Treat, Walk & Race for NECT Cancer Fund of DKH, NOW Road Race and Walk, Eastern CT Heart Walk, Beat Breast Cancer 5K, Sterling's Turkey Can-Can Road Race, and the Putnam Bank Thompson Turkey Trot (happening this weekend!). She also participates in A Reason to Ride's annual Flag Day Motorcycle Run for veterans in need, and is currently very involved with the musical group Mass Production as they prepare for reunion concerts coming spring of 2020 to raise funds for local scholarships. Melissa Hendrickson was named Putnam Bank's Employee of the Month for September 2019. Melissa has been with the bank since September 2007, and currently serves as Griswold Branch Manager. Melissa said, “I was completely surprised and honored to be nominated for this award. I work with a great staff that makes coming to work easy. I love being part of an organization that gives back so much to our community." Melissa is an active member of the Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce BizEd committee. She participates in community events such as the Quinebaug Valley Regional Rotaract Club's Cornhole Tournament and Trivia Night, as well as Griswold's Snowflake Festival & Parade and Spooktopia! Trunk or Treat. Melissa was the Team Captain of Putnam Bank's NOW Road Race & Walk team. She also served as a committee member for both the NOW Road Race & Walk, and Taste of NOW events. Melissa enjoys spending time with her husband John, her fur baby Holly May, family, and friends. August 2019 - Sandra Lisee

Sandra Lisee was named Putnam Bank's Employee of the Month for August 2019. Sandra has been with the bank since March 1997, and currently serves as a Staff Accountant. Sandra said, “It is such an honor to be selected to receive the employee of the month award. It is rewarding to work for a company that recognizes and honors the contributions of its employee. Community banking at its best, and together we really do make a difference." Over the last 22 years at Putnam Bank Sandra has participated in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, the March of Dimes March for Babies, and Habitat for Humanity Build Days and Family Selection Committee. She recently took part in the Walk & Race for NECT Cancer Fund, and is looking forward to participating in the Northeast Opportunities for Wellness Lap the Lake and the Beat Breast Cancer 5K Run & Walk. Sandra has also volunteered for her church for the last 35 years. She is involved with the bank's Employee Giving Program, and the Putnam Bank Pep Squad. Sandra enjoys kayaking and spending time in Vermont with her husband as well as quilting, hiking, gardening, and reading. She loves spending time with her grandchildren, along with other family members and friends. “Sandra is a valuable team member. July 2019 - Tyler Rabideau

Tyler Rabideau was named Putnam Bank's Employee of the Month for July 2019. Tyler has been with the bank since November 2017, and currently serves as Online Banking Representative. Tyler said, “I am very excited and honored to have been selected as employee of the month. Putnam Bank has helped me grow professionally, and I get to work with great people. Thank you!" Tyler has participated in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. He enjoys spending time with his girlfriend, Emily, his friends, and family. When not working, Tyler writes and produces music, plays guitar, mountain bikes, and hikes. “Tyler is competent, cheerful, and a pleasure to work with. June 2019 - Jennifer Weed

Jennifer Weed was named Putnam Bank's Employee of the Month for June 2019. Jenn has been with the bank since September 2008, and currently serves as Quality Control Specialist. Jenn said, “I am shocked and honored to be nominated for this award. It is amazing to work with such a great group of people, and to work for a bank that is so involved in the community." Jenn participates in the Walk & Race for NECT Cancer Fund of DKH. Her hobbies include spending time with her two whippets, Juliet and Carmen, along with family and friends. In her free time Jenn enjoys walking, shopping, loom knitting, and sewing. “Jenn does an excellent job as a Quality Control Specialist in the Operations Department which is a critical part of the backroom support of banking operations. May 2019 - Amy Day

Amy Day was named Putnam Bank's Employee of the Month for May 2019. Amy has been with the bank since September 2013, and currently serves as Floating Head Teller/CSR. Amy said, “Wow, this was really unexpected, but a nice surprise." Amy participates in the Norwich Rock the Docks, charitable motorcycle runs, and supports numerous military organizations such as the Navy and Marine Core Relief Society. She has three wonderful dogs, and enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, and going on their annual vacation to upper New Hampshire. She also enjoys gardening and canning. “Amy is an excellent member of our team and exemplifies the best in employee work ethic and enthusiastic volunteerism to help make our community a better place to live and work," said Thomas A. Jaimini Patel was named Putnam Bank's Employee of the Month for March 2019. Jaimini has been with the bank since June 2016, and currently serves as CSR Supervisor of our Griswold Branch. Jaimini said, “I am pleased, honored and grateful for receiving the employee of the month award. I am very blessed to work with an amazing group of people at Putnam Bank." Jaimini is involved in community events which include the Now Road Race & Walk, Spooktopia Trunk or Treat, Griswold Snowflake Festival & Parade, Eastern CT Heart Walk, and Griswold Public Schools Open House. She enjoys spending time with her son, Viaan, and her husband, Vishal, along with her family and friends. Michelle DeMarco was named Putnam Bank's Employee of the Month for February 2019. Michelle has been with the bank since December 2001, and currently serves as Head Teller of our Main Office. Michelle said, “I am so thankful and thrilled to be chosen for this award. I'm grateful to work with such an amazing group of people." Michelle volunteers at her children's school for various activities and sporting events. She enjoys traveling, camping, watching her children play baseball and basketball, and spending time with her family and friends. “Michelle has been with Putnam Bank since 2001 and has done a great job working her way up, and is now serving as head teller of the Main Office. Alaina Batchelder was named Putnam Bank's Employee of the Month for January 2019. Alaina has been with the bank since October 2010, and currently serves as CSR Supervisor in or Norwich Branch. Alaina said, “I was surprised and honored to be chosen for this award. I am truly grateful to work for a friendly, community bank." Alaina participates in the Norwich Rock the Docks event and Safe Futures' Christmas Adopt a Family program.
